The Kinky Lizard Cafe and the Rock Base tribute to AC/DC.
Spent last night and this morning setting up the Applecross apartment—unloading, assembling, finding where things belong. With the hard lifting done, this morning I headed down to the Kinky Lizard for coffee, it was beautiful and strong (I nominate Australia for having the best coffee in the world!). I do love that Pemberton has its own rhythm, genuine people and grounded.
Applecross has a different pace – a faster pace, more flex, more noise. Twenty meters from the café, the Rock Base statue stands over Canning Highway, the real “Highway to Hell” that gave AC/DC their anthem. The plaque tells the legend; I think about this as I sip my coffee and listen to the morning traffic hum. It’s good to be here, to feel the contrast, but I always like when the time comes to head back to the quiet reach of the Southern Forests.
