For a few years now, Melissa and I have been quietly collecting. A cactus here. A succulent there. Pots placed on this patch, or that spot, the plants waiting patiently for a home of their own.
In Pemberton that home now exists.
What you’re looking at is our completed succulent garden, built around the space between the house and the workshop, framed by red gravel, a raised bed, scattered rocks, and a repurposed wheelbarrow that turned out to be the perfect centrepiece.
Every piece in this garden has a story. Some were found, some were gifted, some travelled a long way to end up in Pemberton.
This one belongs to Melissa. It reflects her eye, creativity, patience, and the quiet joy she takes in growing things and helping them thrive.
The view beyond isn’t bad either.
My dear Arthur and Melissa,
What a delight it is to see a garden so carefully tended, with a perfect aesthetic—balanced and truly set within an undeniable landscape context. I loved it.
Perhaps one day I shall visit you with Marianne. I was especially struck by the beautifully reddish color of the soil, not to mention your excellent taste.
You are to be warmly congratulated. May God always bless you.
A very warm embrace,
Baroness Sonia Maria de Oliveira Prestes.
